Aviation | News | 2023-06-02 | WMO Congress adopts amendment to AMP qualification and competency requirements and other initiatives

The nineteenth World Meteorological Congress (Cg-19), convened in Geneva, Switzerland from 22 May to 2 June 2023, adopted an amendment to the qualification and competency requirements of aeronautical meteorological personnel. The amendment will be reflected in the Technical Regulations (WMO-No. 49), Volume I, General Meteorological Standards and Recommended Practices and the Compendium of WMO Competency Frameworks (WMO-No. 1209) with applicability on 1 January 2026.

In addition, Congress approved a two-stage plan of action for the discontinuation of the Technical Regulations (WMO-No. 49), Volume II, Meteorological Service for International Air Navigation.
