1st Virtual Meeting - Regional Association II Coordination Panel on Hydrology and Water Resources (RA II CP-Hydrology)
The 1st virtual meeting of the RA II Coordination Panel on Hydrology and Water Resources (RA II CP-Hydrology) was held virtually through videoconference on 29 September 2022. The meeting was chaired by Dr Hyo Seob Cho, Chair of RA II CP-Hydrology and co-chaired by Dr Sung Kim, Co-chair of RA II CP-Hydrology and Regional Hydrological Adviser for RA II.
Background
The seventeenth session of the WMO Regional Association II (RA II-17) had established the new working structure for the region and approved the corresponding operational plan for the intersessional period from 2021 to 2024. Topics/deliverables dealing with operational hydrology were distributed between the Coordination Panel on Hydrology and Water Resources (CP Hydrology), the Working Group on Services (WG Services) and the Working Group on Infrastructure (WG Infrastructure).
The RA II CP-Hydrology has been assigned the responsibility of ensuring that activities relating to operational hydrology across WG Infrastructure, WG Services and research are coordinated and that they contribute to the region's priorities and to the RA II Operating Plan.
Meeting Objectives
The 1st virtual meeting served the following objectives:
- Initiate engagement with the nominated experts
- Provide an overview of WMO and RA II priorities in operational hydrology
- Initiate discussions on preparing the workplans and timelines for RA II deliverables
- Discuss the tentative programme for the first face-to-face meeting of RA II CP-Hydrology
Meeting Outcomes
The meeting had the following outcomes:
1. Improved understanding of WMO and RA II activities among the experts
2. List of actions to be completed prior to the first face-to-face meeting were developed
3. Draft programme and objectives for the first face-to-face meeting were agreed upon
