WWRP Nowcasting and Mesoscale Research

A

Mission

WGNMR aims to advance the research of nowcasting and mesoscale processes and predictability; to promote the implementation of nowcasting systems within National Meteorological Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and among their users, including the use of numerical modelling, predictability, assimilation of high-resolution data and field experiments.

  • NMR should contribute to the WMO global effort to aid capacity development and awareness of nowcasting techniques and products, especially in developing and least developed countries and regions.

  • NMR should identify, through its regional survey initiative, gaps in, and solutions for, nowcasting provision in nations and regions without operational nowcasting services.

  • NMR should facilitate the capacity development of nowcasting services through the connection of nowcasting service users with the providers of data, products and infrastructure for sustainable development of nowcasting services.

  • NMR should facilitate and promote research to understand mesoscale processes through observational and modelling studies including field experiments.

  • NMR should promote research related to high resolution prediction and predictability from minutes to days.
