Purpose
Under the direction of the Chair of SC-WIPPS, the TT will work on selected set of the task of the G3W Implementation plan related to operational modelling. The work will be performed in collaboration with the relevant bodies under Infrastructure Commissions, specifically TT-G3W-networks and TT-G3W-data, and with the inputs from the research community (e.g. the Global Atmosphere Watch) and partner organizations. These ToRs will be reviewed after the fourth session of the INFCOM.
Specific tasks include:
- Define characterises and document of the mandatory and recommended G3W products produced by G3W centres and lead centres;
- Define and document characteristics of the G3W modelling systems;
- Define and document core and complementary functions of the G3W centres and lead centres.
- Update WIPPS Manual with the characteristics of the data products, modelling systems and centres functions.
- Develop common protocols to establish compliance of the G3W centres with the established requirements (minimum documentary standard of centres)
- Document comparison protocols including deliverables and methodology.
- Support TT-G3W-Networks in conducting network design experiments.
- Report on the activities of the group to SC-EMT and AG-G3W.
Composition
Task Team will be comprised of experts representing WMO Regions and covering required expertise in operational greenhouse gas modelling across diverse modelling systems.
Modalities of work
Most of the work will be conducted by electronic correspondence and tele/video conference, with the possibility of holding face-to-face meetings when deemed appropriate by the co-chairs and if resources are available.
Deliverables
WIPPS manual is updated to include G3W operations and recommendations on the methods and protocols for the quality control and verifications of infrastructure outputs are established and presented to the INFCOM.
