2025 UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development: RA VI's Role in Promoting Gender-Responsive Policies for Water and Food Systems

With global progress towards the SDGs at risk, gender equality remains a pressing issue. Women play a critical role in agrifood systems, yet they face significant challenges, including limited access to resources, technology, and decision-making opportunities. In this context, we are pleased to announce the upcoming 90-minute side event on Thursday, 3 April 2025, starting at 13:15 Geneva time, titled "Re-imagining the Future of Women in Food Systems: Harnessing Science, Technology, and Partnership to Advance the SDGs." This event will focus on advancing gender equality through innovation, knowledge sharing, and policy advocacy.

As part of this important discussion, Eng. Angela Chiara Corina, WMO RA VI Hydrological Adviser, will contribute remotely, highlighting the WMO Gender Action Plan as a gender-responsive policy in water and climate resilience. Her participation underscores WMO's commitment to integrating gender considerations into hydrology and climate policies to support sustainable food and water security.

Angela Chiara Corina’s role in this event is also linked to her position within the RA VI Management Group, which coordinates the regional implementation of WMO policies, including the WMO Gender Action Plan, adopted at the 19th session of the World Meteorological Congress

RA VI supports the WMO Gender Action Plan and gender-responsive policies, contributing to global efforts also under the WMO Commission for Weather, Climate, Hydrological, Marine, and Related Environmental Services and Applications (SERCOM), where Angela Chiara Corina is a vice-president, ensuring gender equality integration into WMO services.

This event is organized back-to-back with the 2025 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, providing a platform for experts, policymakers, and practitioners to collaborate on addressing gender inequalities in agrifood systems. In this regard, Angela's intervention aligns with the mandate of the RA VI High-Level Task Team on Sustainable Development, which promotes the implementation of the WMO policies, in connection with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
