RA VI Regional Scientific Forum: Uniting Minds in the Pursuit of Knowledge

The Regional Scientific Forum event, which took place on October 10th and 11th, 2023, has proven to be an enthralling platform where scientists from a diverse array of backgrounds came together to celebrate the pursuit of knowledge. This was an extraordinary opportunity to engage in enriching dialogues, delve into thought-provoking presentations, and foster valuable connections with fellow experts.

The event emphasized the value of collaboration and featured discussions on cutting-edge research, addressing knowledge gaps, and broadening our horizons. Topics encompassed the pivotal role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) in bridging the gap between science and society, as well as the challenges posed by hydrological extremes under climate change, Artificial Intelligence, and the role of digitalization in research.

A high-level panel discussion included ministers and representatives who delved into strategic approaches based on the Recommendations of the 2022 Regional Conference on the Future Role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.

The Forum endorsed the RA VI Research Programme for 2024-2025 and Beyond, representing a significant milestone.

Furthermore, the Forum highlighted the Early Warning for All (EW4All) initiative, with active discussions shaping the action plan and emphasizing the crucial role of the scientific community in its implementation.

Effective communication strategies and methodologies took center stage in the subsequent session, with a particular focus on the role of social science research in addressing climate change, weather adaptation, and water resource management. These discussions underscored the intricate interplay between messaging, communication methods, and audience engagement.

A list of Recommendations for the RA VI Working Group on Research was presented at the Forum's conclusion. These recommendations will be addressed in cooperation with the Management Group and Member States of the Region.
