RA VI Training Workshop on Regional WIGOS Centres functions and tools

World Meteorological Organization is organizing a Regional Association (RA) VI Training Workshop (hybrid) on Regional WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) Centres functions and tools in Santander, Spain from 20 to 22 November 2023, hosted by the Spanish Meteorological Service (Agencia Estatal de Meteorología, AEMET). The workshop aims to improve the skills of relevant National Focal Points (NFPs) of RA VI Members for efficient use of WIGOS tools as well as a better understanding of the Regional WIGOS Center (RWC) functions, RWC concept in RA VI and Members’ roles within operation process of the RWCs.

OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP

The workshop will be organized as a hybrid workshop with online and in-person participation of the relevant National Focal Points (NFPs) and technical staff of 51 Members of RA VI as well as representatives from Members and EUMETNET who are candidates for hosting the Regional WIGOS Centres (RWCs) in RA VI. The workshop will allow representatives of the Members establishing RWCs and NFPs of all RA VI Members to fully understand the concept for RWCs in RA VI, their roles within operation process of RWCs and to use the WIGOS tools efficiently to perform their tasks. The workshop will also support the establishment of RWCs in RA VI with the following objectives:

  • to deliver training on the RWC functions and roles of hosting Members and affiliated Members 
  • to deliver training on the WIGOS tools (OSCAR/Surface, WDQMS webtool and Incident Management System for RWCs)
  • to get feedback from the Members on using of WIGOS tools and performing RWC functions
  • to introduce the concept of RWC structure in RA VI and implementation plan for establishment and operations of RWCs in pilot mode.
