Overview

The Third Session of the Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP-3) focused on establishing a way forward in the implementation of Decision 10 (EC-78) - Emerging Topics Important to the WMO Mission and Mandate, which involves developing recommendations on forward-looking emerging issues for the 20th session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-20) in 2027.   

In addition to updates regarding the advancement of SAP recommendations (Resolution 35 (Cg-19)), other topics of discussion included addressing membership needs and gaps, identifying additional activities aligned with the Revised Terms of Reference of the Scientific Advisory Panel (Resolution 31 (EC-78)) and selecting SAP leadership.  

Summary of Key Outcomes

  1. decision regarding the scope and outline of topic papers for Cg-20;
  2. decision regarding additional SAP activities to achieve the SAP mandate;
  3. identified membership gaps and needs and decide on next steps to issue a new call for members;
  4. selected SAP Chair and Vice-Chair; and
  5. decided on date and time of next session.
