WMO Regional Office Joins EUMETNET Climate Services Meeting to Foster Regional Collaboration
The WMO Regional Office for Europe participated in the EUMETNET Climate Services Meeting on 7 November, which was made accessible to all RA VI Members, including non-EUMETNET NMHSs. This inclusivity was facilitated by the recently renewed Memorandum of Understanding between WMO and EUMETNET, which strengthened collaboration and extended opportunities to a broader community. Organized by the EUMETNET Climate Programme, the meeting welcomed participants from beyond the EUMETNET network, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and regional cooperation.
Dr. Kornelia Radics, Director of the WMO Regional Office for Europe, addressed the meeting, emphasizing the importance of presenting climate information in a simple, accessible, and user-friendly manner. She underlined the value of the WMO-EUMETNET cooperation framework established through the Memorandum of Understanding, calling for collective actions to advance climate services across the region.
Dr. Radics remarked, “In an era where climate change significantly impacts our lives, it is crucial that we provide clear and accessible climate information to empower communities and stakeholders. This collaboration framework enables us to enhance the relevance and usability of climate services.”
The meeting served as a dynamic platform for discussing key aspects of climate services, including innovative practices, integration of climate data into decision-making processes, and collaboration opportunities. It also offered National Focal Points on Climate Services and Information Systems a valuable chance to exchange experiences, share insights, and explore innovative solutions to enhance the clarity and accessibility of climate information.
Building on the discussions from the WMO RA VI Webinar on the Potential Applications of Climate Forecasts (25 September) and the WMO RA VI RCC User Forum (5-6 November), this meeting continued the sequence of events aimed at strengthening climate services in the region. It reinforced the collective efforts of WMO, EUMETNET, and their partners to address climate challenges and improve the quality and usability of climate data for all stakeholders.
Through this collaboration, WMO and EUMETNET demonstrate their shared commitment to empowering communities with actionable climate information and fostering innovation in climate services delivery across Europe.
