World Meteorological Organization formalizes its partnership with the Sava River Basin Commission

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2022 to extend the cooperation and joint activities in the fields of water, climate, weather and environment, leading to synergies that will benefit the WMO and the ISRBC communities regionally in Europe and globally.

Collaboration under this MoU is expected to include planning and implementation of co-operative projects and initiatives, exchange of knowledge and good practices, and joint work in promoting data and information sharing among regional Member States.

Furthermore, this MoU is a basis for jointly collaborating in implementation of WMO Hydrological Observing System (WHOS) within the Sava River basin. The WHOS pilot initiative will be launched to build on the hydrological data exchange policy established in 2014 across five Balkan countries, enhancing data sharing to underpin sustainable transboundary water management.

This MoU will remain in force for an initial period of five years and will thereinafter be renewed automatically, each time for a new period of five years.

Other technical arrangements may take the form of written agreements under the umbrella of this MoU.
