Zoom in on weather, water and climate information and services for agriculture at the regional dialogue of the UN Food Summit

Vice-chair of WMO Standing Committee on Services for Agriculture, Director-General of the Romanian Meteorological Administration, chair of the Regional Working group for Services and Applications, and member of the regional team on sustainable development, Dr Elena Mateescu, participated in the Regional Dialogue for Europe and Central Asia, a side-event to the UN Food Summit. The event tackled policy and governance issues to transform food systems in Europe and Central Asia.

Panel discussions exemplified policy actions, such as the establishment of the Regional Agrometeorological Center, in supporting the transfer of science information and research into the food systems related operations.

Policy actions are relevant to improve sustainability of food systems, minimize negative impacts on the natural resource base, promote nature-positive and climate-resilient food production, and re-shape financing for greener outcomes.
