As а contribution to the WMO Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP), Hong Kong, China will organise the Workshop on Aviation Meteorological Science and Service Development at the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters from 3 to 6 December 2024.

The workshop will introduce recent developments in aeronautical meteorology and aviation weather services, particularly in the aspect of application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), impact-based meteorological forecast and aeronautical meteorological information services. The workshop will consist of lectures and experience sharing sessions.

The workshop aims to address the training and capacity building needs for WMO Members who need to upgrade their aviation weather services by utilizing scientific and technological advances in aviation meteorology and integrating enhanced meteorological information into air traffic management and airline operations.

The workshop will accommodate around 30 participants in total, with preference given to Members in RA II (Asia) and RA V (South-West Pacific). Acceptance of those from other RAs will be subject to the availability of places. Nevertheless, online participation will be arranged if physical attendance could not be accommodated.

The Hong Kong Observatory (НКО) is prepared to cover the tuition fees and per diem expenses for all participants and offer air passages to some Members on their request. НКО will also be pleased to contribute the VCP workshop to the WMO Learning Events Calendar before the event.

The workshop will also be organized under the banner of "Meteorological Training Centre for Belt and Road Countries" which will be established by the Hong Kong Observatory in December 2024. Having said that, invitations for this workshop will be extended to not only the Belt and Road Countries but also all other WMO Members.
