WIS| News | 2024-09 | WIS 2.0 Training Workshop in Brasília, Brazil

The WIS 2.0 Training Workshop, hosted by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) in Brasilia, from 16 to 20 September 2024, marked a significant step in enhancing data sharing and collaboration across Latin America.

Conducted in Spanish, one of the official UN languages, the workshop welcomed participants from 13 Countries, focusing on familiarizing them with the WIS 2.0 architecture, with a special focus on the "WIS2 in a box" software—an open-source tool lowering the barrier to implement WIS 2.0.

The practical sessions allowed participants to engage hands-on with the WIS2 in a box software, a tool that plays a fundamental role in the transition to the new system. Instructors, Rodrigo Cortes (Argentina), Alberto Fleitas (Cuba), both former trainees from the previous WIS2 Training Workshop who have successfully implemented the WIS2 Node within their organizations, along with Daniel Vila Espigo from the WMO Secretariat, led the sessions. Their combined expertise ensured participants equipped with the necessary skills to configure, operate and maintain WIS2 nodes.

This workshop is part of a broader series of WIS2 training workshop in 2024 designed to promote the adoption of WIS 2.0, with upcoming events planned in Fiji and Morocco later in 2024.
