WIS| News | 2024-10 | WIS 2.0 Training Workshop in Nadi, Fiji
The WIS2 training workshop was held in Fiji Meteorological Service, from 7 to 11 October 2024. This workshop aimed at strengthening the meteorological capabilities of Pacific Island Countries and Territories, with participants from WMO member states and territories, including Australia, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, as well as organizations such as the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in Fiji.
The training focused on the implementation of a WIS2 Node, with the goal of enabling the sharing of weather data from even the most remote areas of the Pacific. This, in turn, enhances forecasts and strengthens weather services across the region. By adopting this approach, Pacific Island countries and territories are empowered to contribute to a more interconnected and efficient WMO Information System, improving regional and global weather and climate services.
