WIS | News | 2025-04 | WIS 2.0 Training Workshop in Muscat, Oman
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Meteorology – Civil Aviation Authority, Oman, successfully held a WIS2 training workshop in Muscat from 13 to 17 April 2025. This workshop is the first one of a series of WIS2 capacity-building events taking place in 2025, targeting different regions around the world to ensure all WMO Members are equipped to implement WIS2.
In Muscat, the training brought together experts from the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of 14 Arab countries, including Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya (State of), Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Yemen, spanning multiple WMO Regional Associations. In addition, one expert from Russian Federation, was also invited to participate in a "training for trainers" capacity, in preparation for the planned WIS2 training workshop in Russian Federation later this year.
Participants engaged in a comprehensive program designed to strengthen their knowledge of WIS2 architecture and hands-on experience with WIS2 in a box, open-source reference implementation of a WIS 2.0 Node.
The workshop also provided a platform for regional collaboration, allowing NMHSs to align their national implementation plans with WIS2 requirements and share insights on common challenges and solutions.
