🌪️ Background Information

Sand and dust storms (SDS) are meteorological phenomena that significantly impact environmental health, air quality, and socio-economic conditions across multiple regions worldwide. These events pose serious challenges to public health, agriculture, transportation, and infrastructure development.

The Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS), an international scientific coordination initiative, has been developing a global network for SDS research and operational forecasting, enhancing the capacity of WMO Members in delivering timely and accurate SDS forecasts and early warnings.

This meeting, in collaboration with RSMC-ASDF Beijing, will review national progress on SDS forecasting, look at the current developments and achivements in SDS research and forecasting, demonstrate the operational guidance capabilities of RSMC-ASDF Beijing, and discuss future work priorities and key issues in SDS research, amongst others.
