SC-MINT/Expert Team on Transition to Modern Measurement Meeting,Beijing, China-10-13 November 2025 (Hybrid)
Purpose
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), with the kind hosting of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), will organize the SC-MINT/Expert Team on Transition to Modern Measurement (ET-TMM) meeting as a hybrid event from 10 to 13 November 2025 in Beijing, China.
The transition to automation for making observations is still in progress in many WMO Members with request for support and guidance on this process.
Considering the ongoing and upcoming investment projects with the activities for installation and operation of automated observing systems, and several requests coming from the Members to provide guidance on transition to automation the Standing Committee on Measurements, Instrumentation and Traceability (SC-MINT) of the Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (INFCOM) SC-MINT identified this important topic as a priority area to support Members in the transition to modern measurement practices.
The Expert Team on Transition to Modern Measurement (ET-TMM) has been actively carrying out various activities under its workplan, including the development of several guidance materials to support Members in their transition to modern measurement practices.
As outlined below, ET-TMM will review, discuss, and finalize the draft materials for submission to SC-MINT and INFCOM:
- Development of Training Curriculum on Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Maintenance
- Preparation of guidance on development of operations and maintenance plans for AWSs
- Review and update of competency frameworks for instruments and measurements
- Development of training materials for implementing siting classification
- Experience sharing on transition to automation through community of practices
