RA VI RCC Coordination Team Holds Strategic Meeting on Climate Services

The RA VI Regional Climate Centre (RCC) Coordination Team convened on 30 September 2025 for a strategic session extended to RCC Consortium members. This marked the first meeting chaired by Dr Laura Lukassen (DWD, Germany), who succeeded Stefan Rösner as RCC Coordinator.

Key Highlights:

  • Node Updates: Progress reports were presented for the Long-Range Forecasting, Climate Monitoring, and Climate Data nodes, including high-resolution seasonal forecasts, soil moisture monitoring initiatives, and enhanced extreme event reporting.
  • Transforming RCOFs: Plans were discussed to evolve Regional Climate Outlook Forums into Regional Climate Forums (RCFs), broadening scope from subseasonal to decadal services and strengthening links with policymakers and disaster risk reduction strategies.
  • Future Nodes and Collaboration: Potential new nodes—High Mountain, Decadal, Sub-seasonal, and Projections—were reviewed. Information gathering with global centers will inform decisions at the next RCC Coordination meeting.

Preparations are underway for the next coordination meeting on 3 February 2026, including internal alignment on snow and cryosphere products and continued integration of Climate Watch advisories.
