Public Education and Outreach
Information about weather, climate and water is used in every aspect of socio-economic activity and is increasing in importance as the world faces more challenges posed by climate change, depletion of the ozone layer, hurricanes, floods and other forms of natural disasters.
WMO is uniquely placed, together with its Members and partner organizations, and its networks of observing, monitoring and prediction systems and centres, to promote better understanding of the Earth's atmosphere and to ensure vital contribution for human welfare and environmental protection.
Part of its strategy to do this is to assist in capacity building and education of the public, students; governments and other interested parties about the socio-economic benefits of meteorological, hydrological, oceanographic and other related services. In doing so, it encourages and facilitates the production, distribution and use of public education material in cooperation with others as appropriate.
