The Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) is a major new initiative approved by the eighteenth session of the World Meteorological Congress in June 2019. It reaffirms the commitment of the WMO Members to support the NWP systems that underpin all WMO activities in the areas of weather, climate and water. The GBON regulatory material and the development of the processes for nominating, approving and monitoring the performance of the stations and platforms under GBON will reside under the Standing Committee on Earth Observing Systems and Monitoring Networks. Purpose The Study Group will provide guidance on implementing the various aspects of national GBON contributions within the territories (including territorial waters) of all WMO Members.
