OTHER LINKS
ISO Geographic Information/Geomatics
Responsible for the ISO geographic information series of standards.

Data Management and Communications (DMAC)
  • DMAC is one of the highest priority areas of the sustained Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). The DMAC subsystem will knit together the global and coastal components of the IOOS, and link every part of the observing system from the instruments to the users. The DMAC subsystem will transmit multidisciplinary observations, collected from a broad range of sensors and platforms (in real-time, near-real-time, and delayed modes) to diverse user communities.

Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE)
  • INSPIRE is ambitious. The initiative intends to trigger the creation of a European spatial information infrastructure that delivers to the users integrated spatial information services. These services should allow the users to identify and access spatial or geographical information from a wide range of sources, from the local level to the global level, in an inter-operable way for a variety of uses. The target users of INSPIRE include policy-makers, planners and managers at European, national and local level and the citizens and their organisations. Possible services are the visualisation of information layers, overlay of information from different sources, spatial and temporal analysis, etc.

The NOAA National Operational Model Archive and Distribution System (NOMADS)
  • A Web-services based project providing both real-time and retrospective format independent access to climate and weather model data.

Nerc Data Grid
  • E-science Initiative in the UK
  • Currently focused on atmospheric and oceanographic data, but designed for extension to the full gamut of environmental sciences.
  • Currently a research project, but elements of the NDG should receive ongoing, long-term NERC support as strategic infrastructure.

The CEOS Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS)
  • WGISS is one of three subgroups supporting the Committee on Earth Observing Satellites (CEOS). CEOS addresses coordination of the satellite Earth Observation (EO) programs of the world's government agencies, along with agencies that receive and process data acquired remotely from space.
  • The Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS) promotes collaboration in the development of systems and services that manage and supply EO data to users world-wide.

Earth System Grid and the Community Data Portal
  • A collection of earth science datasets from NCAR, UCAR, UOP, and participating organizations.
