Dr Lorraine Youds is a Scientific Officer for the World Weather Research Programme at WMO. Lorraine is from the United Kingdom, where she was the manager of a large research programme, which delivered improvements in African weather forecasting capability and communication, from hours to seasons.
Lorraine is a qualified project manager and has significant experience in international development research, project management and research development. She has an undergraduate master’s degree in earth sciences, an MSc in environmental monitoring, modelling and reconstruction, and a PhD in strategic decision-making for UK energy policy for contributing to the sustainable development goals.
Lorraine’s responsibilities for the WWRP include supporting the Polar Prediction Project, the Nowcasting and Mesoscale Research Working Group, the Joint Working Group on Forecast Verification (with the World Climate Research Programme), the Paris Olympics Research Development Project and Aviation Research Development Project. She also assists with regional activities based in Africa.
