Being under the remit of the Research Board (body of WMO Congress), the World Weather Research Programme fosters the Earth System Science from minutes to months and collaborates with the Commission for Services and the Commission for Infrastructure to provide the best possible solutions for weather related issues of the future.
To address the complexity of challenges in the current and future environment, including social components of the Earth System, WWRP coordinates a wide range of working groups and research projects. All of these research activities must show cutting edge interdisciplinary thinking and are evaluated to the highest academic standards. The yearly evaluation is provided by a board of established experts in weather science, the Scientific Steering Committee.
Currently WWRP coordinates three core projects, namely the
- Polar Prediction Project
- Subseasonal-to-seasonal Prediction Project (coordinated together with WCRP)
- High Impact Weather Project
