The Task Team on Indigenous and local knowledge and Weather and Climate Services (TT-ILK) was established under WMO leadership with support from FAO and UNESCO. The Task Team recognizes that weather and climate services, products, and processes are key instruments to strengthening the adaptive capacity of smallholder farmers. All three UN agencies recognize the importance of blending Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) with scientific knowledge to increase ownership and uptake of information and accelerate climate change adaptation.

This Task Team will be under the coordination of the WMO Services Commission (SERCOM) Standing Committee on Services for Agriculture (SC-AGR) and the Research Board, World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) in the Science and Innovation department. The TT-ILK leadership will be supported by the Environment Workstream within the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UNESCO Cairo Office in coordination with the UNESCO Headquarters LINKS programme.
