Advisory Group on Socioeconomic Benefits (AG-SEB)

The WMO Advisory Group on Socioeconomic Benefits (AG-SEB), established to provide expert advice and coordination, focuses on assessing the socioeconomic benefits (SEB) of Members’ investments in weather, climate, hydrological, marine, and related environmental services. Operating under the oversight of the SERCOM Management Group, it plays a pivotal role in advancing SERCOM’s SEB-related objectives, with a particular emphasis on the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative. Building on Decision 17 (EC-75), the AG-SEB aims to enhance and coordinate SEB-related activities, ensuring alignment with global programmes and promoting awareness among policymakers and donors.

The AG-SEB is tasked with evaluating methodologies to assess the socioeconomic benefits of Members’ investments, providing expert guidance on emerging trends, such as the economic and societal impacts of extreme events. It will propose strategies to integrate SEB assessments into WMO initiatives, programmes, and projects, enhancing their effectiveness. Additionally, the AG-SEB will lead the development of a WMO SEB Toolbox and Training Package, offering data-driven tools and user-friendly training for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and stakeholders, while fostering collaboration with international programmes to support SERCOM’s objectives.
