World Meteorological Organization

Purpose: Under the direction of the Chair of SC-IMT, the TT will work on the task of the G3W Implementation plan related to operational data exchange. The work will be performed in collaboration with the relevant bodies under Infrastructure Commissions, specifically TT-G3W-networks and TT-G3W-modelling, and with the inputs from the research community (e.g. Expert Team on the Atmospheric Composition Data Management under the Global Atmosphere Watch) and partner organizations. These ToRs will be reviewed after the fourth session of the INFCOM.
Specific tasks include:
• Identify current practices in data characterization, data exchange, data management and data policies within the greenhouse gas modelling and observational community.
• Collect information on the types of prior information required for the implementation of G3W and the ways how this information is managed.
• Identify needs and establish requirements for global data exchange and long-term archiving within all elements of G3W (observations, prior information and modelling components).
• Contribute to development of methods and tools to ensure opportunities for the utilization of data from the diverse sources withing G3W pursuing efforts towards convergence of the existing practices toward a standard WMO compliant approach.
• Develop architecture for global data sharing in support of G3W implementation (including data producers, data format etc) conformant with WIS2.0 considering future observational and modelling capabilities.
• Report on the activities of the group to SC-IMT and AG-G3W.
Required expertise:
• Greenhouse Gas data across different domains and platforms and modelling systems, operational data exchange.
Deliverables:
• Mapping of the current practices related to GHG data characterization, data exchange, data management and data policies.
• Design of the architecture for global data sharing in support of G3W.
