Successful Preparation Meeting for WIS2 to GTS Gateway Test

The preparation meeting for the WIS2 to GTS gateway test was successfully conducted in a hybrid format from 26 to 27 February in WMO HQ. The meeting took place from 07:00 to 13:00 UTC, with short breaks to accommodate remote participants from different time zones. The meeting brought together SC-IMT Chairs, Gateway operators, GTS experts, and experts from DGM and ECMWF to develop a comprehensive test program. Key outcomes included the definition of a test plan, the establishment of selection criteria for target countries to join the test, and the finalization of a detailed timeline for the pre-test, alpha-test, and beta-test phases. The objective is to ensure that the WIS2 to GTS gateways are fully prepared for operational service by 1st May.

WIS2 aims to provide a seamless transition from GTS to WIS2 by providing "gateways" that ensure data published on WIS2 is accessible through GTS and vice versa. Currently, two GTS-to-WIS2 gateways, operated by DWD and JMA, allow WIS2 users to retrieve GTS data. These services are fully operational and accessible. Additionally, two WIS2-to-GTS gateways, provided by CMA and the UK Met Office, are prepared to re-publish WIS2 data onto GTS for Members planning to discontinue direct GTS data transmission after transitioning to WIS2.
