About the WORKSHOP
The IWTC is a unique gathering that brings together tropical cyclone researchers and operational specialists including social scientists from all regions affected by tropical cyclones.
The main objectives of this workshops are:
- to report on current knowledge, forecasting and research trends on tropical cyclones from an integrated global perspective;
- to foster communication within and between operational and research communities;
- to identify needs and opportunities in TC operational and research and offer recommendations for actions that will improve the global knowledge of and response to TCs.
The theme for this workshop is "Improved TC science and services for better decision-making". Decisions are made at every point along the end-to-end warning chain that need optimising for ultimate appropriate community action during TC events.
A total of 20 working groups across seven topic areas are working to prepare reports that will be summarised at the workshop. Discussions in breakout sessions will address key issues and suggest pathways forward on each topic.
This will be the tenth IWTC workshop held every four years, organised by WMO through its World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and Tropical Cyclone Programme (TCP). Rob Rogers (NOAA Hurricane Research Division, HRD) and Joe Courtney (Australian Bureau of Meteorology, BoM) are the co-chairs. The venue is Bali, Indonesia and hosted by Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG), Indonesia.
This workshop is by invitation only to attend in person. Others can apply to attend online (see above "Registration for ONLINE participation").
