The proposed side event will serves as a platform to launch the joint publication by IRENA and WMO, providing both a high-level and technical overview of the report. This 1-hour event will present the report's crucial findings, offering a detailed presentation of its technical aspects and fostering a discussion around its key messages through a high-level panel discussion, featuring perspectives from both WMO and IRENA.
The objectives of this event are as follows:
- Raise awareness about the report and underscore the pioneering role of WMO and IRENA in the fields of climate change, climate variability, and renewable energies.
- Enhance understanding of climate drivers and their interactions with renewable resources (wind, solar and hydropower) and energy demand, emphasizing their vital role in bolstering the resilience of energy transition and systems.
- Highlight the necessity of adapting market structures to play a central role in providing the required flexibility during the transitional phase from centralized to decentralized power systems.
- Emphasize the significance of comprehensive and systematic energy data collection and sharing to enhance knowledge and understanding of how climate variability and change impact energy supply and demand.
