Task Team on Hydrology Research
Background
The TT-HydroResearch is building on the outputs of the former WMO Research Board Tiger Team on Hydrology, and was established at the 9th WMO Research Board session in 2023 (see Decision #3 and corresponding Action #3 from the session report). The need for the TT-HydroResearch is driven by the upcoming developments in the newly agreed hydrology-relevant projects and activities of the research programmes, which consequently need to be reflected in the WMO Plan of Action for Hydrology. Hence, TT-HydroResearch will coordinate with the hydrology activities within WWRP, WCRP and GAW Moreover, there is a need for the WMO RB to better link with additional global and regional hydrological research initiatives and communities, such as UNESCO-IHP, IAHS, HEPEX, EGU/AGU etc.
Roles and Objectives
The TT-HydroResearch will:
- Review, update (as appropriate), and oversee the implementation of the WMO Hydrological Research Strategy 2022-2030.
- Review, update (as appropriate), and and oversee the implementation of the actions related to the WMO RB (as lead or contributor) contained in the WMO Plan of Action (PoA) for Hydrology.
- Recommend the establishment of a subsidiary body (e.g., Expert Team, Study Group) or research program under the Research Board to lead the hydrology research agenda of WMO.
- Identify and report on the research priorities for improving hydrological predictions that add value across spatial scales and time horizons.
