WCM Hazard-Specific Hydromet Infographic
WCM Hazard-Specific Hydromet Infographic is developed through close cooperation between WMO communities specifically related to the hazard and the region of interest. It strategically sthrengtheni the authoritative early warnings with layers of on-the-ground information – such as the location of refugee camps – to provide fit-for-purpose products for anticipatory humanitarian action.
One success story was documented at the event of tropical cyclone Mocha, in May 2023. Through coordinated efforts within the WMO community via WCM, anticipatory actions were effectively executed three days before the cyclone’s landfall. In this case, the WCM was underscored as a plafform to leverage the information and warnings from WMO Regional Specialized Meteorological Center New Delhi (RSMC New Delhi), Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), and Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (MDMH). The WCM Regional HydroMet Scan specifically designed, developed and distributed successfully enhanced a unified UN-wide response, resulting in minimizing historical losses and damages.
