Background
The Executive Council with resolution 4.2(18)/1 (EC-73) endorsed the WMO Information System 2.0 (WIS 2.0) implementation plan and recognized the importance of establishing projects to demonstrate the benefits that WIS 2.0 will bring to Members. Eleven projects, covering all the WMO disciplines and domains in diverse context, were then established. They all confirmed the soundness of WIS 2.0 principles, and they have produced precious input to Standing Committee on Information and Management Technology (SC-IMT) for designing the technical architecture and choosing the technologies supported by WIS 2.0.
The transition from WIS and GTS to WIS 2.0 is complex and requires the adoption by WMO Members of advanced technologies that are commonly used in the current IT ecosystem but can be difficult to implement for several NMHSs. To facilitate the implementation process and to provide a common base for the further development of WIS 2.0 components, the SC-IMT of the Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (INFCOM) has established the project “WIS2 in a box” providing cloud-ready software for data exchange in the WIS 2.0 framework.
The GTS to WIS2 transition cannot be successful without an active engagement of the NMHSs. Therefore, the aim of the workshop is to introduce WIS 2.0, its implementation plan, the transition strategy, and WIS2 in a box, to the WMO Members to prepare for the transition and to ensure a WIS 2.0 implementation in a short timeframe.
The INFCOM-2 will be held from 24 to 28 October 2022. There are 3 sessions to be held for different regions to introduce WIS 2.0 to the INFCOM delegates before the INFCOM-2.

- to introduce "WIS2 in a box"
- to synergize with the NMHSs on WIS 2.0 implementation and transition from GTS
