Overview

The Ninth Session of the Research Board (RB-9) provided a crucial opportunity for RB members to discuss outcomes from the 19th World Meteorological Congress (Cg-19) and 77th Session of the Executive Council (EC-77) held in May and June 2023. Additionally, RB members discussed cryosphere-related activities, hydrology, ongoing activities and collaboration with the Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) and WMO Technical Commissions. RB members also discussed next steps to implement SAP Recommendations as requested by Congress and the Chairs of the research programmes, Regional Association (RA) Representatives and SAP Chair provided updates on ongoing and future activities.

 

Summary of Key Outcomes

  1. establishment of the Task Team on Early Warnings for All
  2. establishment of the Task Team on Hydrology Research
  3. identifying a way forward to update RB membership with a call for new members in early 2024
  4. decision to develop a concept note on SAP Recommendation #3
  5. identification of action items to guide next steps in implementing SAP Recommendations #1, 4 and 6; and
  6. decision to renew current World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) Scientific Steering Committee members with a request to add an additional member from RA III.
