International Space Weather Coordination Forum

What?

Following

  • the recommendations from the final report of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) Expert Group on Space Weather: "Towards improved international coordination for space weather services."
  • the resulting invitation from the secretariat of the UN COPUOS to the WMO, the International Space Environment Service (ISES) and the Committee On Space Research (COSPAR) to take a leadership role in advancing international cooperation and coordination for improved international space weather capabilities.
  • the formal agreement from each of the WMO, ISES and COSPAR to accept this invitation and take an active role in advancing international coordination towards the goal of improved international space weather capabilities by endorsing and signing the “Coimbra Declaration”.

WMO-ISES-COSPAR have brought together a number of international organizations engaged in space weather into an International Space Weather Coordination Forum (ISWCF) with the aim to explore pathways to increased coordination of their activities, and to identify areas where coordination is lacking.
