Meeting of Inter-Programme Expert Team on Operational Predictions from Sub-seasonal to Longer-time Scales (IPET-OPSLS)
The WMO Commission for Basic Systems (CBS) and the Commission for Climatology (CCl) have significantly strengthened their cooperation through the Joint CBS-CCl Inter-Programme Expert Team on Operational Predictions from Sub-seasonal to Longer-time Scale (IPET-OPSLS), which was established to support the development of operational production systems for the provision of information beyond the medium-range.
The World Meteorological Congress at its eighteenth session through Resolution 7 (Cg-18) – Establishment of WMO Technical Commissions for the Eighteenth Financial Period, decided to establish, in accordance with Article 8 (g) of the Convention, two technical commissions for the eighteenth financial period: a Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information Systems (Infrastructure Commission) and a Commission for Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental Services and Applications (Services Commission). A joint meeting of these new Commissions will be held in early April 2020 to decide on their sub-structures and priority areas to be addressed during the 2020-2023 inter-sessional period.
In that context, the IPET-OPSLS will meet to discuss key priority areas of work for consideration by the Infrastructure Commission and possibly make recommendations to be brought forward to the seventy-second session of the Executive Council (EC-72).
