RA VI Research Group Sets the Stage for 2025 with Key Plans and Initiatives

The RA VI Research Group, with active input from the Secretariat, convened to discuss pivotal developments and initiatives for 2025

The discussion focused on the latest decisions (Decision 5 and Decision 6) adopted by the RA VI at its 19 session in October 2024, formalizing the RA VI Scientific Forum and the adopting the RA VI Research Program for 2024-2025 and beyond.

The meeting highlighted several strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening global-regional collaboration and advancing the integration of research into operational activities:.

RA VI Scientific Forum and Collaborative Sessions
The group emphasized the importance of structuring the upcoming RA VI Scientific Forum to include dedicated sessions on global research programs and the transfer of research into operations. These sessions aim to enhance collaboration between global and regional research activities and foster smoother transitions from research to practical applications. The forum would also focus on themes such as urban development, extreme heat, and related topics. It would tentatively be held in Q3 2025, with the exact dates and venue still to be determined.

Technology and Innovation Symposium
A potential symposium on technology and innovation in research, modeling, and prediction was also discussed. This event would focus on the latest developments in AI and machine learning, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring technological advancements in the field. The Research, Modelling, and Prediction Team of RA VI will further discuss the event, taking into account its feasibility associated to the potential costs.

Communication and Outreach Efforts
To enhance visibility and foster greater stakeholder engagement, the group proposed launching a quarterly bulletin alongside a series of online scientific lectures. These lectures, which will feature contributions from scientists and journalists, will showcase cutting-edge research and provide a platform for sharing the most interesting cases within RA VI. The initiative is expected to promote ongoing scientific discourse and contribute to the broader scientific community.

Engagement with Global Research Programs and Partner Agencies
Recognizing the need for wider collaboration, the group discussed engaging in these and other initiatives representatives from global research programs and key partner agencies. This expanded engagement will help strengthen RA VI's impact and ensure alignment.

To ensure continuity and avoid date conflicts, the group reviewed its own meeting schedule as well as the calendar of events for its subordinate teams. This will help ensure seamless planning and coordination of activities throughout 2025.

As the RA VI Research Group moves forward with these initiatives, the focus remains on strengthening global-regional collaboration, advancing research-to-operations integration, enhancing communication and outreach, and ensuring a successful RA VI Scientific Forum in 2025.
