WIS| News | 2024-11 | WIS 2.0 Training Workshop in Casablanca, Morocco
The WIS2 Training Workshop, hosted by the Direction Générale de la Météorologie (DGM) of Morocco, took place in Casablanca from 11 to 15 November. This session brought together participants from 21 French-speaking African countries. The objective is to empower them to effectively share and access real-time meteorological data via WIS2 network.
Following previous WIS2 training workshops conducted in English and Spanish, this session in French reflects WMO’s commitment to delivering training in official UN languages. During the workshop, trainers from DGM shared their expertise, providing hands-on guidance to help participants equipped with the necessary skills to configure, operate, and maintain WIS2 nodes.
During the training, all participating countries in the WIS2 Training workshop in Casablanca successfully published WIS2 notifications, using the 'WIS2 in a Box' software—an open-source tool designed as a reference implementation of a WMO WIS2 Node.
The training marks a fresh beginning for the African meteorological community, laying the foundation for further progress in their meteorological capabilities. While this is the final WIS2 training session of 2024, it is just the beginning of an ongoing effort. In 2025, additional training sessions will be offered to further support our Members and meet their evolving needs in implementing WIS 2.0.
