World Meteorological Organization

The Expert Team on WIS Operations (ET-WISOP) held its kick-off meeting from December 3 to 5, 2024, in a hybrid format, with physical attendance at WMO headquarters in Geneva. The meeting convened representatives from all 15 Global Information System Centres (GISCs) along with WIS2 Global Service providers.

The meeting provided updates on the progress of WIS2 Global Services and WIS2 nodes, alongside in-depth discussions about the preparation work, the roles and responsibilities of GISCs during the operational phase of WIS2, which is set to commence in January 2025. These discussions were organized into clearly defined objectives—short-term, mid-term, and longer-term, ensuring a structured and strategic approach to WIS2 operations and transition to WIS2 for all Members.
