HydroSOS Implementation Phase

Implementation Progress

Different implementation stages are ongoing informally and formally in many regions across the globe, since the end of end-of-year 2021. The six WMO Regional Associations, through their hydrological bodies, prepared HydroSOS Regional Implementation Plans that were endorsed during WMO Meteorological Congress 19 (Cg-19).

HydroSOS has developed methodologies for creating streamflow, groundwater, and soil moisture status products. Countries use those methodologies to share their standarized products to the HydroSOS portal. The HydroSOS suggested categories are as follow:

CategoryPercentile rangeSuggested colour for visualisation (RGB / HEX)
High flowQ ≥ 0.9RGB: 44/125/205 HEX: #2C7DCD
Above normal0.75 < Q < 0.9RGB: 142/206/238 HEX: #8ECEEE
Normal range≤ 0.25 Q ≤ 0.75RGB: 231/226/188 HEX: #E7E2BC
Below normal0.1 < Q < 0.25RGB: 255/168/133 HEX: #FFA885
Low flowQ ≤ 0.1RGB: 205/35/63 HEX: #CD233F

Information related to each region/sub-region is available under the following links:

WMO is currently working together with Member countries (14 in RA I, 7 in RA II, 12 in RA III, 21 in RA IV, 8 in RA V, 5 in RA VI) on inception/implementation activities for HydroSOS under different projects, support to global activities, and developing project proposals.

Technical Development Team

As part of the implementation progress, members from the HydroSOS Technical Development Team gather virtually and face-to-face to discuss the way to technically support he implementation of HydroSOS around the world, and to identify and develop data products and standards for the system requirements.
