The RA VI Coordination Panel on Hydrology met in Bucharest on 29 September 2026 to review regional hydrological priorities, strengthen cooperation and prepare for the first RA VI Hydrological Assembly. The meeting was chaired by Stephan Dietrich (Germany) and hosted by the National Meteorological Administration of Romania, in collaboration with Marius Matreata, Hydrological Adviser of Romania and Vice-Chair of the Panel.

A key focus was the identification of regional priorities, with capacity development emerging as an important area for further action. The Panel discussed strengthening training opportunities, bilateral cooperation and knowledge sharing across the Region.

The Panel also reviewed the draft Recommendations for the Hydrological Assembly and finalised preparations for the launch of the RA VI Water Resources Statement, a regional flagship product. Discussions further addressed WHOS, HydroSOS and RBON/GBON, highlighting the need for improved hydrological data access and stronger coordination.

Partnerships were also explored, including potential cooperation with EUMETNET and MeteoGate to support hydrological data exchange and institutional collaboration.

Looking ahead, the Panel identified the 2027 RA VI Scientific Forum, expected to focus on floods, as an important opportunity for greater engagement with the hydrological community. The Panel also reviewed its Long-Term Action Plan 2026–2030 and outlined key priorities and actions for 2027.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of close regional cooperation among Members, Hydrological Advisers and partners to strengthen hydrological services and address water-related challenges across RA VI.

The Panel’s next meeting is planned for January 2027 and will focus on reviewing progress, following up on the outcomes of the Hydrological Assembly and coordinating priorities and activities for 2027.
