Regional Association I
Regional Association I has 53 members representing a wide diversity of territories and climatic zones. RA I presents opportunities and challenges in the areas of observation and monitoring of the weather, climate, water and environment. In order to respond to the needs of members in these areas, RA I has been structured into XX Working Groups, XX expert teams and XX task team.

Working Structure of RA I
RA I Committee on Infrastructure
The Committee on Infrastructure contributes to the development and implementation of globally coordinated systems for acquiring, processing, transmitting, and disseminating Earth system observations, modelling, forecasting, and related standards. The inaugural meeting of the committee was held in Casablanca, Morocco, from 29 to 31 March 2022. The meeting established three working groups on Data Management and Telecommunication, Observations and Instruments, and Data Processing and Modeling. Three task teams were created within the working group on Observations and Instruments, and two within the group on Data Management and Telecommunication.
RAI Committee on Services
The RAI Committee on Services was established under Resolution RA I – 18 and its terms of refences defined. The committee is composed of the Chair (South Africa), two Co-Vice-Chairs (Senegal and Kenya), Chair of the working groups established, Representative of the RCCs, RSMCs, RAI experts nominated by various Members, and 5 Permanent Representatives that serve as Chairpersons of the various Working Groups. The committee is formulated to contribute to assisting Members for capacities for new and improved services to help inform resilience and socio-economic development in the region. RAI Hydrology and Water Coordination Panel.
The RAI Hydrological and Water Coordination Panel was established through Resolution 6 (RA I Session-18) under the leadership of Dr Jean-Claude NTONGA (Cameroon) as chair of the Panel. Other members include Niger, Benin, Gabon Namibia, Kenya, Egypt, Mauritius Congo, Tunisia, and Comoros. The Panel has established three Special Teams including 1) Products and Tools – Infrastructure 2) Flood and Drought – Services and 3) Capacity Development. Voluntary participation by Hydrological Advisers from Member countries and Experts are supporting the Special teams. The Special Team on Products and Tools is to broadly focus on activities towards assessing the infrastructure needs and legal limitations of countries towards implementing transmission of hydrological data. The Special Team on Flood and Droughts will explore service requirements for the integrated approach to flood and drought management. The Special Team on Capacity Building will map hydrological training and competency needs and harmonize these needs into a capacity building plan that is aligned with the WMO education and training plans for hydrology.
