The WMO Services Commission Technical Conference on Early Warnings will take place on 21 October 2026 during SERCOM-4. The event will explore how scientific advances, effective communication and sustained partnerships can strengthen early warning systems and support timely action.

Participants will include experts from WMO, the UK Met Office, Météo-France, UNDRR, ITU and IFRC, bringing perspectives from meteorology, disaster risk reduction, telecommunications and humanitarian action.

Dr Estelle de Coning, Chief of WMO’s World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), will present “Science advances in early warnings” and join the panel on the future of early warnings. Her presentation will highlight WWRP’s contributions, focusing on the Weather and Society Conference 2026 and the PEOPLE Project, and how integrating physical and social sciences can advance people-centred early warning systems.
