WMO High-level Dialogue on Climate Science Information for Climate Finance and the 53rd Senior Official Field Exchange (SOFE)
Beijing & Fuzhou, China
Introduction and backgrounds
The event is jointly organized by WMO and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and represents WMO's flagship annual global dialogue on strengthening the role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in accessing and implementing climate finance. It will bring together senior representatives of NMHSs, multilateral development banks (MDBs), climate funds, United Nations organizations and development partners to exchange experiences and identify practical pathways for mobilizing investments in weather, climate and hydrological services.
From 14 to 16 September, the high-level dialogue will draw on WMO Publication No. 1365, Guidance on Enhancing the Role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in Mobilizing Climate Finance, while supporting NMHS leadership, strategic thinking and partnerships. From 17 to 18 September, the 53rd Senior Official Field Exchange in Fujian Province will provide first-hand exposure to MAZU—China’s solution for Early Warnings for All (EW4All)—and disaster risk reduction practices through technical exchanges, field visits and peer learning.
Co-sponsored by the Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative, the event will also showcase WMO’s contribution to helping Members, particularly Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, access climate finance by strengthening climate science information, early warning systems and institutional capacity.
The event will be held in hybrid format. To participate online, please join the Zoom meeting using the details below:
