WCM Background
The WMO Coordination Mechanism for humanitarians (WCM), a core element of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, supports crisis-prone and conflict-affected regions with timely expert advice and situational awareness.
WCM delivers co-designed and tailored solutions for United Nations (UN) and humanitarian stakeholders, curating authoritative weather, climate and water information from WMO Members and Centres. Through this, WCM advances early action, strengthens preparedness efforts and supports crisis response to humanitarians. WCM also plays a key role in terms of capacity building, providing ad-hoc training to WMO and humanitarian community.
Since its inception in 2019, WCM has made significant progress, marked by key resolutions and milestones (see Table below), including the approval of the WCM Implementation Plan in March 2023 and the important contribution to the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative. WCM has become a pivotal component of EW4All and plays an important role in linking Pillar 2 (Detection, observations, monitoring, analysis and forecasting) with Pillar 4 (Preparedness and respond). By connecting hazard information with actionable response and preparedness measures, WCM contributes directly to the global goal of EW4All and strengthens resilience to the growing risks of high-impact HydroMet and Climate events.

Since 2022, thanks to the contributions from WMO Members and Centres, UN / Humanitarian stakeholders and Partners, over 700 WCM products (scans and briefings) have supported humanitarian agencies in saving lives and livelihoods, demonstrating how HydroMet and Climate information, translated in tailored products, can support humanitarian action (see WCM Service Delivery Section).
WCM activities have also increased the visibility of WMO Members and Centres within the humanitarian community.
