Sustainable observing networks, research, modelling and prediction
This focus area addressed a component of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS): Observations and Monitoring; and Research, Modelling and Prediction.
An assessment of data gaps in climate observing networks was conducted at the regional level. This enabled the development of an Action Plan for each region to address identified gaps, including recommendations for improving data availability and accessibility at the Regional Climate Centers (RCCs) level.
ClimSA supported focus countries in developing national strategies to strengthen observation systems. Consultations were conducted with countries' reporesentatives on the current status of observing systems, national plans, available resources, institutional capacities, and country-specific needs.
Country-specific assessments have been conducted in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Samoa.
A workshop on sustainable observations laid the foundation for developing sustainable observation solutions. By the end of the workshop, participants had produced initial drafts and implementation plan outlines tailored to their respective national contexts.
ClimSA supported RCCs to have operational access to existing climate information produced at the national level. Multiple trainings on the International Climate Assessment and Dataset (ICA&D) were conducted at the regional level, supporting ICA&D installation in each RCC.
