The WCM Global HydroMet Weekly Scan (WCM-GWS) is a global product for situational awareness issued every Thursday and it is focused on the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) areas of interest. It provides an overview on the on-going and potentially upcoming (weekly scale) meteorological and hydrological (HydroMet) events which might be significant and / or relevant for UNHCR and humanitarian agencies (HA). It is based on WMO authoritative information available from WMO Members and Centres, combined with humanitarian information.

The product includes:

  • UNHCR locations of forcibly displaced persons,
  • Authoritative Tropical Cyclone (TC) track / areas of possible formation from the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centres (RSMCs) and Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres (TCWCs),
  • Black polygons representing the on-going or potentially impacted areas by HydroMet events,
  • Expert advice provided as short informative texts,
  • Hyperlinks to the authoritative sources.

This product has been developed by WCM following a co-design approach in collaboration with UNHCR, with contributions from the African Center of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD), the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (BMKG), the Federal Office for Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss, the German Weather Service (DWD) and GeoSphere Austria
