WMO Webinar Series on Strengthening Regional Coordination and Communication on El Niño Conditions

WMO is organizing a webinar series to gather regional perspectives on El Niño impacts and present its El Niño communication resources, to familiarize the WMO Regional Climate Centre (RCC) community with the WMO Coordination Mechanism and the emerging Consolidated Mechanism, and to facilitate an exchange of perspectives among RCCs on the evolving regional climate context. The series will also promote the sharing of good practices for communicating climate risks and uncertainties to Members.

El Niño / La Niña Phenomena
El Niño and La Niña are opposite phases of a naturally occurring climate pattern known as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), involving fluctuating ocean temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, coupled with changes in the overlying atmosphere.
WMO Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) are centres of excellence mandated to generate high-quality regional-scale climate products to support development and delivery of effective climate services at a national scale for the benefit of WMO Members.
The WMO Coordination Mechanism (WCM), a core element of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, supports crisis-prone and conflict-affected regions with timely expert advice and situational awareness.
