Terms of Reference

(a) Promote and coordinate the planning and implementation of measures required to minimize loss of life, damage and economic losses caused by tropical cyclones and their related hazards in the South Pacific and South-East Indian Ocean area;

(b) Review regularly the Tropical Cyclone Operational Plan (TCOP) for the South Pacific and South-East Indian Ocean and recommend amendments to the president;

(c) Review regularly the status of warning systems for tropical cyclones and their associated hazards within the South Pacific and South-East Indian Ocean area, and recommend measures for the development or improvement of those systems including fit-for-purpose impact-based forecast and warning services (IBFWS);

(d) Review regularly the tropical cyclone forecasting capability and development needs of Committee members, and in alignment with the WMO Capacity Development Strategy, recommend appropriate training measures to meet those needs;

(e) Coordinate its activities with other RA V subsidiary bodies to facilitate the implementation of the RA V Operating Plan;

(f) Establish task teams as it deems necessary to carry out the work of the Committee.
