WMO Youth Network

Governance and Structure

Overview

The WMO Youth Network was established following a request from the Executive Council in 2024 and the adoption of the Youth Action Plan (2025–2027) by the World Meteorological Congress in 2025. Members are invited to nominate National Youth Focal Points to support its implementation and contribute to annual reporting.

Structure

The Network connects youth across national, regional, and global levels:

  • National Youth Focal Points (nominated by Members) form the core of the Network;
  • Regional Youth Focal Points coordinate inputs at the regional level;
  • Technical Youth Coordinators link youth perspectives with WMO technical commissions and research bodies;
  • The WMO Secretariat provides coordination through dedicated youth focal points and a central Youth Coordinator.

Participation is flexible and cross-cutting, allowing engagement across different thematic areas.

How it works

The Network operates through regular coordination and knowledge exchange, including:

  • Digital collaboration platforms;
  • Global and regional meetings;
  • Thematic discussions and ad hoc working groups;
  • Consultations and surveys to gather collective input.

Youth contributions are consolidated by the Secretariat and inform reporting to WMO governing bodies, including the Executive Council and Congress.

Thematic areas

The Network is structured around three main engagement spaces:

  • Youth for Water, Weather and Climate (WWC): technical and scientific collaboration;
  • Youth Forum: strategic discussions on governance and the future of WMO;
  • Youth Connect: communications, outreach, and partnerships.
