Main partners

In the field of aeronautical meteorology, WMO coordinates and collaborates primarily with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a sister specialized agency of the United Nations. WMO and ICAO have had a formal working arrangement since the 1950s to facilitate this essential partnership.

WMO also has established formal arrangements and agreements with a number of other partner international and regional organizations/associations including the International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA), International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).

Other partners

Through WMO's partnership with ICAO in particular, community collaborations also exist from time-to-time with a number of other international and regional organizations/associations in the aviation sector including the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA), Airports Council International (ACI), Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).

In addition, in view of quality management system requirements within the aeronautical meteorology domain, WMO utilizes the ISO 9000 series of quality assurance standards of the International International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
