In the field of aeronautical meteorology, WMO coordinates and collaborates primarily with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a sister specialized agency of the United Nations. WMO and ICAO have had a formal working arrangement since the 1950s to facilitate this essential partnership.

WMO also has established formal arrangements and agreements with a number of other partner international and regional organizations/associations including the International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA), International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).
